Little Tokyo legacy businesses Far Bar, Fugetsu-Do, and Kouraku are well-known and endearing community icons. Both located within the Little Tokyo National Historic Landmark District on E. 1st St., Far Bar, in the space of the former Far East Cafe, is a boisterous place especially during Dodger baseball season, and 123-year old Fugetsu-Do, still operated by the Kito family, is known for its beautifully hand-crafted Japanese mochi sweet bean cakes. Making our way south on S. San Pedro St. and then east on 2nd St. we come across old school Kouraku, a typical neighborhood eatery that you find all over Japan, and is the oldest operating ramen shop in the City of Los Angeles.
-
Far Bar: sukeroku sushi duo (inarizushi and futomaki)
Fugetsu-Do: strawberry chocolate manju
Kouraku: pork chahan (fried rice)
In addition to the guided tour and small business tastings, each tour participant will also receive a Little Tokyo enamel pin (choice upon event check-in).

Little Tokyo legacy eateries Mr. Ramen, Oomasa, and Mitsuru Cafe continue operating by their respective family members for many decades. Oomasa , the longest running business in Japanese Village Plaza when it opened in the late 1970s, offers a myriad of Japanese meals and has a lively sushi bar, while just down the JVP pathway is Mitsuru Cafe, known for its large show window where you can see imagawayaki, a small round pancake filled with sweet red bean paste, being made and savory skewered snacks are another reason for the long lines. Crossing E. 1st St., Mr. Ramen is known as a community, family restaurant where you can admire the artwork adorning the walls while savoring the super delicious ramen.
-
Mr. Ramen: fried shrimp skewer
Oomasa: California roll
Mitsuru Cafe: mitarashi dango
In addition to the guided tour and small business tastings, each tour participant will also receive a Little Tokyo enamel pin (choice upon event check-in).
