How much do you know about shoyu, Japanese soy sauce? It’s more than just tamari or white soy sauce! Let’s dive deeper into this essential ingredient in Japanese cuisine.
In this hands-on workshop, you’ll learn about different types of Japanese soy sauce but also experience the traditional pressing process using a wooden press. Plus, you’ll get to start your batch of soy sauce and nurture it for a year until it’s ready to be enjoyed.

A guided tasting & quiz featuring five varieties of soy sauce
Hands-on soy sauce making with step-by-step brewing guidance

The workshop will take place at the Nerio Education Center located inside the Japanese American National Museum, 100 N Central Avenue, Los Angeles, CA 90012. Please arrive at the Japanese American National Museum ten minutes early to check in prior to the workshop.
